Mix up an envelope of spiced apple cider mix with a two-liter bottle of ginger ale. Add ice if desired. If you are living it up, add a couple pounds of dry ice.

If you like a slice of cheddar on apple pie, try adding some slivers to the bottom of hot apple cider. It's a gooey delicious, nutritious treat to be eaten out with a spoon once the cider's gone.

We made apple cider this year for our Christmas get-together and my husband bought two huge jugs of apple-cider and dumped them in a stock pot and added a few cinnamon sticks and turned on low. The kids and adults both loved it!

In the past, we have also used plain apple juice and added cinnamon sticks to that.

In a slow cooker, add one gallon of apple cider and a half bag of cinnamon imperial candies. Cook on low. Candies will give a cinnamon flavor as well as make the punch a pretty color.

In addition to adding cinnamon sticks to apple cider I like to slice up one fresh orange and put it in the crockpot too. Rinds and all. Adds a nice "orangey" taste and smells really good.

A way to stretch the cider is to brew up some apple cinnamon herbal tea and add it to the cider in the crock pot. It tastes great and smells great that way.

Drinking fresh apple cider is a great way to warm up after raking autumn leaves. Making it yourself at home can be an even greater treat.

  • 7 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 apple, peeled
  • 1 orange, sliced

Combine first 3 ingredients in a Dutch oven. Insert cloves into apple; add apple and orange slices to juice mixture, bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. Remove cider from heat, and let stand about 5 minutes.
