When an out-of-state company you are dealing with starts to give you their regular phone number stop them and ask for their 800 number. Another tool for locating an 800 number for a particular company is to call 1-800-555-1212. This is information for any 800 number in existence in the U.S. If the 800 number you want exists, the operator will give it to you. The best part? 1-800-555-1212 is toll free, so you don't pay for the call!
