Cardboard Box Pre-planted Garden?

I am thinking of a pre-planted garden in a cardboard box. How might that work?

I tried it once, and it was a huge mess. Once the box got wet, it all fell apart.

What do you think will happen to the cardboard box when you water your plants? If you line it with plastic, it will not have proper drainage, I would try to find some thing else to plant in.

If this is a decorative box, you could put the plants inside of it in proper pots with a tray inside to catch the runoff.
