Canning Ham and Bean Soup?

September 26, 2011

Ham and Bean SoupI would like to know how to can my homemade bean and ham soup? I don't have a lot of freezer space, so canning is perfect. I just can't find any directions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To can non-acid foods, you will need a pressure canner. If you can find a friend from whom to borrow it, they should be able to help you!

Try Ball Bluebook. Or Ball online. They have very good instructions for anyone to follow. I used to can my old fashion vegetable soup. All from the garden. You will need a pressure cooker.

Has anyone tried canning the bean with bacon soup and if so how long did you process it?

Here is the Ball website where you can find recipes and learn how to do canning, freezing and dehydrating.

Bean with bacon soup isn't listed, but there are other types of soup with meat in them with directions and canning times. Hope this helps.
