Would using a baking soda and water mixture be good to use as a mask for acne?

My daughter swears by Milk of Magnesia. I tried it for a breakout once and it cleared in 24 hours. I just shook it up and put it on my face, allowded it tot dry and then washed it off. She uses it on a regular basis (every other day) and get the cheap kind from walmart.
