Planting in Cinder Blocks

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 433 Posts

If you have extra cinder blocks around the house fill them with soil and put your plants in them. It looks pretty nice. I saw this the other day; a lady even had berry plants in them.

I like to make flower beds and surround them with cinder blocks. Then, I like to fill in the holes of the cinder blocks with good soil and put small plants in them. I've always done this, I think it looks good.

I have grown herbs in this way for a number of years. Parsley, chives, basil, oregano, cilantro have all done well. Also for decorative purposes, sweet potato vine.

I think strawberries would do well too. I think the blocks help hold the water around the roots rather than have it dissipating through the soil and feeding the weeds!
