Iowa Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

Put shortening and sugar in bowl and cover with boiling water. Stir this mixture. Sift dry ingredients twice and add to hot mixture. Then add eggs and vanilla. Batter will be thin. Pour into 9x13 inch greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-45 minutes.
