Angel (German Short-haired Pointer/Dalmatian)

This is our dog Angel by name and disposition. She is a rescued dog. She was found wandering along the highway in late winter 7 years ago and was put in care of a local animal rescue organization (New Mexico Animal Friends). She was fostered by a friend of ours, who recommended that we adopt her since he knew we were considering getting a dog.

She was named Angel by the rescue organization staff, and the name suits her well. She's lively, but sweet and gentle with everyone, even our two young children. We are guessing that she is a German Short-haired Pointer and Dalmatian cross. Her coloring and ear shape is Dalmatian, but her disposition (very birdy! and very cuddly) and physical appearance are otherwise very Pointer-ish.

I was glad to see your post. We acquired a dalmatian male, shelter turn in. He has these characteristics, however, that seem more "pointer" but he looks all dal, as does your Angel. He loves our 4 yr old and tolerates our cats. When our old male cat died, I took him on a leash (he has invisible fence) and he stopped dead in his tracks lifted a paw, tail out and head down.

It was our old male cat. He obedience trained very quickly and other than chewing (electric cords, the hot tub, my seat-belt), he's not a bad pet. Nice to see your "Angel", perhaps the pointer/dal mix is a "winner"! Keeps the spots and makes a better disposition.

Hey guys. Meet Bayla. We rescued her from a dalmatian rescue in Chicago. She's half liver dalmatian / half GSP, and I have to say she came out absolutely perfect. (02/02/2006)

Wow, what cute dogs! We have what we thought was a gsp. we just thought she was a runt of the litter, she is very tiny for the breed. and of course named spot! but know looking at these pics she must be a gsp/dal cross!! she look almost like a litter mate to bayla with the exception of being liver not black! You can tell she is totally spoiled!

Does your dog have blue eyes? Does she have her tail? We have a very similar dog. She has blue eyes and a docked tail (poor thing) and we got her from someone who was going to take her to the pound. We think she looks like she has GSP in her but she doesn't have much of a nose.

She's got more of the Dalmatian temperament. She's 6 or 7 now, but when we got her we had to run her a lot. She enjoyed running with the car on back roads. Then she started running deer and we had to stop letting her off leash, even on a walk, but by then she was older and more settled. (11/11/2007)

I have one of these dogs! I call him my reverse, or "inside out" Dalmatian. Lots of black spots, both ears are black and all around one eye. His skull structure is very find for a Dalmatian - more like the German short haired, and loves birds. I got him from the pound here in Fairbanks Alaska. I have seen another one just like him up here, I think she's his sister. (01/18/2008)

I have a dalmatian gsp mix too! I had no idea there were other people out there that loved theirs as much. Lola, my precious mix, is always receiving compliments on her beauty and intelligence. Do you all get the same feedback? If so, we should start a some sort of new breeding chain. If you all feel the same about yours as I do Lola, then they could be award-winners! They are so loving and loyal. More so than any other dog I have had.

I recently bought a 16 week old, dog. His mother was definitely a pedigree Dalmatian but they have no idea what got into the kennels. The vet guessed at a springer spaniel because of the marking. Now he is growing and I'm thinking he looks more like a dalmatian x pointer/ gsh , what do you think as owners of this breed?

Hi this is Jack. I'm trying to find out if there are any of these dogs in Ireland/UK, as jack has just moved there from Hungary where he was rescued as a shelter dog. Super attractive dog with great temperament, definitely a GSP & dalmatian mix. (10/13/2008)

This is Pongo! Formally Buster. He was renamed by the rescue home we got him from. He had a up and down start after the original family gave him to a home, then the second family gave him to a neighbour when they emigrated. The neighbour gave him to a home all in the first 30 months. We've had him 2 years 6 months now and he's a loving and mischievous little dog. He has his faults, hard to train and hates other dogs whilst out, but we wouldn't let him go for the world. (10/18/2008)

We rescued a gsp/dalmatian last January from a dalmatian rescue and "Ana" is the nicest dog I've ever had. We had a purebred dalmatian for 15 years, before Ana. We had to get used to Ana's hunting instinct! So far, in our fenced in backyard she has caught a squirrel, groundhog, bird, frog, toad, vole, and a rabbit. Obviously, that's the gsp in her because our dalmatian, Molly, never caught anything in 15 years! I know the purists out there will cringe, but I love the idea of a new "breed" of "dointers, or palmatians" that's what my kids call her! (12/20/2008)

our angel INKY

I'm so happy to read this blog and to see all these spotty angels out there :)Angel is a great name!I found my angel on the street in Warsaw, Poland in August2008. He was a sweet puppy (about 3 months old) and he was hanging out at the front of my apartment building. Later on I found out he was abandoned in the nearby Saski park.

Somebody left him there with a leash attached to a tree and one of my neighbors took him from the park and brought him for his mom in my building but his mom is an older lady and she could not take him so I did. he is adorable but can be easily annoyed. he is nice to our cats but they are older ladies so they don't let him to close. our INKY is 8 months old now and he is smaller than a dal or pointer. we go for puppy trainings with him. We love INKY- Agata & Marek (01/12/2009)

Max - Dalmatian/Pointer

I rescued Max in California 10 years ago. He is the best dog and friend I have ever had - Loyal, calm, intelligent. He is a trained service dog now and goes everywhere with me. I had his DNA checked and he is Dalmatian/Pointer. He is now 11 and I am looking for a new puppy or dog of the same mix - rescue or not. So if anyone out there has info about a dog like Max - please let me know.
Thanks

This is my dog Oscar who is also a dalpointer. I have had him since last September & am the third hands he has passed through. Although he is extremely loving to me he is very nervous of strangers, particularly male & children, so I'm assuming he didn't have the best start in life! I also saw on the net that his sister is in the local dog shelter and has been starved but as you can see I already have my hands full! What a mischievous but fun animal to have, I love him to bits! (German Shorthaired Pointer/Dalmation) - Charlie

I love this thread. I wish we could all start a club! My dog's name is Charlie and I believe he's a dalmatian/German short-haired pointer mix. I got him as a puppy around 3.5 years ago from a shelter. He's extremely playful, gentle, intelligent, affectionate and very attached to me. He loves other dogs and especially loves people. Really, the one behavioral problem he has in life is jumping up on people to say "hi." I think that's my fault, though, because I picked him up all the time when he did that as a puppy (he was so cute). So we're working on that, but otherwise he's absolutely amazing. He's pretty much my soul mate. (04/24/2009)

All these stories and photos are the best! I rescued Suttree at 2 months old from the Maricopa Shelter (Phoenix). He is now almost 8 months old and completely full of it! He is wicked smart. Each trick (he knows quite a few) took 2 days to learn. Crazy jumper (loves frisbee) and just all around wonderful dog, and he's my first! (05/13/2009)

Great to see there are more of these out there. Here is a picture of my guy, Dugan. Someone found him wandering around the woods hungry. No one was able to find the owners so I adopted him. Was fairly confident he was German Short-hair and Dalmatian but got a DNA test done to appease my nagging curiosity and sure enough!

I can't believe it. I thought all this time that my beloved dog was one of a kind. I also thought he was part dalmatian and part pitbull. My dog's name is Pongo and he is 3 years old. He is the biggest baby. He hates people coming to the house but he is terrified of thunder storms. I love my dog more than anything. My husband is jealous of all the attention he gets. (09/02/2009)

This is Dottie. We were told the Mother was a Dalmatian. I am thinking the father must have been a pointer. She points at ground hogs while we are at the park. Hi, This is my 6 month pup 'Rory'. I got him at my local RSPCA shelter (Australia). They had him down as a pointer/dalmatian mix. But when taking him to get his jabs the vet picked him out as a German short haired pointer straight away. I'm very happy he is a friendly ball of energy and I wouldn't have any other dog! Angel (German Short-haired Pointer/Dalmatian)

Came across this site by accident, but I am amazed by the number of dogs here looking so like mine, Gwenno. I had her from a private home in Cardiff, her Mum was pure dalmatian and they thought the father was labrador, however I am now thinking pointer. She is now 8 years old and my true 'soulmate' . Can be very playful and childish, loves to run in wide open spaces and dotes on me,as I do her! Her negatives are that she bolts at any loud noises- thunder, fireworks , gunshot and she does not like other dogs.

On the whole she is 'all mouth and no trousers' - after an initial show of dominance she will run scared back to me. I often walk her with my friend and her lab and while they will never play, we can walk for hours with the dogs keeping a respectful distance.
I have only ever seen one more dog in this area that had the same appearance- a few weeks ago near the Castle grounds in Cardiff. (02/08/2010)

Angel (German Short-haired Pointer/Dalmatian)

I live in Bosnia, and adopted an obviously half-dalmatian infant puppy abandoned with its siblings near a dumpster. Once he grew up a bit, I always suspected the mix was mainly Dalmatian and German Short hair Pointer, just based on traits (though who knows what else is in a Bosnian street puppy). I even did one of those mail-in DNA tests, but they only detected the Dalmatian part and nothing else. But these other pix clinch it for me! Oreo, as he is called, has got to be majority Dalmatian/GSP. Thanks all for sharing! (So will I. :) ) (04/10/2010)

I am so happy I found this site! Now I know for sure what my baby is! This is June. I rescued her last year from the humane society in San Antonio, Texas. She was very thin but so friendly and sweet. She was 3 when I adopted her. I wanted an older dog who wouldn't need the attention a puppy requires. She is the most amazing dog ever. So mellow and full of personality. June loves running and socializing with other dogs and people. She is the only one of her kind I've seen around these parts. (04/29/2010)

What a treat to see all these other DalPoints. This is our little boy in a dog costume, Lincoln! We rescued him from the Idaho Humane Society when he was two years old. I was just cruising online to see if I could find a puppy photo since I can only guess what he looked like as a puppy. He's too smart for his own good and he's just a joy to be around. Thanks everybody for providing great homes to such deserving dogs. Blessings! (07/16/2010)

I've had Rowdy for 2 years already. She is a German short hair pointer/blue pit mix. I never thought I would see so many dogs with her markings. She is smart, stealthy (especially in the water) can jump pretty high and climb a chain link fence. Yes, she can climb. You can find her on Facebook under the email address
