Changing Yellow Cake Mix to Chocolate?

Bronze Request Medal for All Time! 59 Requests

I have a yellow cake mix that I want to make into chocolate. Can I add a couple of tablespoons of Hershey's unsweetened cocoa mix to the batter?

You can add one quarter cup of cocoa powder and that should do the trick! Good luck!

I'd add more like a quarter cup of cocoa and maybe a little bit more liquid if needed.

I always melt some chocolate on the stove with a tablespoon of water until melted and shiny. Let cool before adding to cake batter and incorporate well.

Chocolate chips melts well and I have been using the dark chocolate kind in a pinch but I still prefer baking chocolate.
