Removing Light Stains from a Cherry Table?

I am trying to remove light (almost white) stains from a cherry wood dining table. I recently purchased a used table and chair set. It was fine, but now there are 4 white or light-colored circle stains that have appeared. I tried toothpaste, furniture polish, and nothing seems to work. I am not sure what the stains are or how they got there. This beautiful table is now marred, I would love to remove the spots.

Rub mayonnaise into the stain, let it sit about half an hour and wipe off.

Normally these are white heat stains on your cherry wood table. They appear from a hot item that was sat on the table such as a cup of coffee or a hot plate.

One of the easiest ways to repair this is with a steam iron. You will need a white towel. Place the white towel over the stain and turn the steam on your iron. Place the iron on the towel and let it steam through the towel. Check it every few seconds to see if the mark has disappeared.

I have used this technique on several pieces of wood furniture. I did start off with a lower heat setting at first and moved it around. I didn't see the stain disappearing. I turned up the heat setting a bit. I kept doing this until I found the right temperature for getting rid of the marks on the table.

Other people use different techniques such as:

Use Vaseline on the watermark. Rub it on the table and leave over night. Wipe it off the next morning.
Use non-gel toothpaste and mix it with baking soda. This is a 50/50 mixture. Rub it in gently and wipe clean.
Make a paste of salt and olive oil and rub this on the water spot. Allow it to sit for an hour before wiping off.

Put a towel over the stain and iron a few minutes until stain is gone.
