You may have a broken belt. Turn the breadmaker over, unscrew the bottom plate, and have a look.

My SKG machine that I just bought from a liquidator store does not power up. When I plug it in, nothing happens. The panel does not lit up. There is no on/off switch.

From the reviews on Amazon, this machine doesn't last long. I don't see a reason why you cannot return it if it doesn't work.

I would ask for an exchange. If they won't, contact the company and see if they will. Most liquidators in my town (the brick and mortar ones at least) usually have a 5-10 day return window if it is not working.

Since this is one of the more expensive bread machines I would suggest trying several things before giving up.

If you have a Sears Service Center in your area, I would try them first as they will probably look at it and tell you what parts it needs.

Google bread machine repairs with your zip code and see what comes up. Call any site and ask if they repair SKG machines and if so tell them your problem and ask what they charge to check it out.
Call any shop listed and make notes of answers.
Don't forget - any necessary parts are extra.
You might want to Google the shop for any complaints before spending money.

Then decide if it is worth bothering with.

You can often find nice bread machines at thrift stores for $5-$15 and they have generally been lightly checked for problems.

I try to find small appliances at one of our local thrift stores but I always make sure it has at least been 'surface' tested.
Most places will let you plug one in and do your own checking.

I always try to look at only very clean (or new with instructions) machines as I do not wish to clean behind someone. Everyone may not be this particular but I have always had good luck - just takes a little longer to find a buy.

Always check to be sure all the parts/accessories are in the package/machine as some pieces are often lost or misplaced.

My Breadman Tr444 works most of the time OK. But it seems to be shutting down mid processing more often. It goes thru kneading and then just stops. The panel just displays as if it was preselection. There is no heat error message.

I did remove the paddle, bushing, etc. in pan and cleaned them up as they were getting hard to move by hand, and they are moving freely now. I even tried to restart from beginning process again and it did the same thing as far as stopping.

Should I do a tear down and clean up everything inside the unit and maybe replace drive belt? Could it be just be a buildup of dust, flour, etc. way inside the unit? Getting too hot?

We have a Panasonic bread maker that won't switch on. I have replaced the fuse, but it still doesn't work. I only used it 2 days ago when it was perfectly fine!

Any ideas on what the problem might be? It is only 18 months old.

I have been using my bread maker for years now and it is pretty old. I pulled out my bread maker after a few months and I decided to make banana bread. I saw that it was mixing and all so I thought it was fine. After the baking cycle when I went to pull it out I noticed that the top half didn't even mix and only the bottom mixed and baked.

The next day I tried to make pizza dough and it was mixing fine, but when I pulled it out it wasn't even in a dough form, it looked like it needed more kneading. Please help, I don't know what's wrong! I know that it's mixing, but it doesn't do the job.

There is an issue with the paddles in the machine. Either the mother needs a bit of oil or the paddles need to be replaced. if the machine is not working at 100% and mixing the items before it is cooked then there is an issue with the mixing cycles and this runs with the motor and the paddles working together to mix your itmes.

I would check the motor area and see if it needs a bit of oil or go to the company who made the machine and see if you can buy a new part for the motor and the new paddles for your machine.

I've been using my bread machine for about 2 years. Recently when it is kneading dough, the kneading blades seem to be working very hard. The kneading sound has become unusual, the blade does not turn smoothly. It is like my dough is too heavy to knead, but actually is not, as I'm using the same recipe (320gm flour) all the time. Previously I didn't have such a problem. I've checked, the belt still in good condition.

Please help me.

If the belt is fine, the motor may be going. Even though it is out of warranty I would contact the company. A machine shouldnt break after only two years.

I agree with Judy, definitely call the company and ask what they can do to help.

I will preface it with after you have made sure that there is no dough caked up anywhere....including inside the blade fitting. I never thought that could be an issue as I thought I was cleaning everything appropriately...but I took a toothpick and VERY, VERY carefully stuck it in the opening where the blade joined the machine (on the blade piece) and yuck came out...that resolved my issues and I know clean my machine much more carefully.

If you have a built in blade this then won't be your issue...but it worked for me. My machine is 19 years old and going strong!

Let us know what they tell you!

Maybe call the company or send them an email. 2 years old is not old for a machine and they should offer suggestions about other things to look for and possible fixes. If it is a part (belt etc.) and they won't replace the machine and you are handy, you can see if the part is cheaper on eBay or another online venue vs. buying it from them. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Use a rubber hammer on it. That should help

I agree with Judy, use something to "break/knock" it loose as it probably has some type of gunk where the bottom and top join.

  • Sadly, the manual does not have very good questions/answers on real troubleshooting.
  • It seems there are pros and cons about people using FixYa but I have found answers on their site.
  • byadvisor.com/.../
  • If you do not have a rubber mallet, you might try using something that is not hard (regular hammer would make a dent unless you soften the blow with a towel or?) but maybe use something like the side sole of a tennis shoe.
  • Really may not take a very hard rap to set it free. Just be sure that all screws have been removed.

My Sunbeam machine doesn't warm up, so it doesn't bake anymore. I used to make french bread with it numerous times. Now when I touch the top of it while going through the french bread cycle, it does not warm up as it used to when it was baking. Does anyone know if this is something repairable or will I need to get a new one?

Thanks

The heating element is probably shot. Bread machines are not as popular as they were, so if I were you I would get another one at a thrift shop or garage sale.

I also still use my old bread machine for french bread as it does a great job but I do expect it to quit on me anytime now.

Your machine may be past its usable stage so I would agree with the suggestion to look for another one. Thrift stores and church sales are really good places to look as not too many people are using these machines any more.

I have seen these for free on Freecycle and some time ago, on Craigslist but you can also place a free ad in either of these stating that you are looking for a bread machine. Just be careful and do not give out ANY personal information.

If you do not frequent thrift stores try looking for locations on the Internet and give them a call before making an extra trip. Goodwill generally always has several for sale - cheap.

Its either the heating element or the thermostat. Either way, it is cheaper to get another one than to repair it.

I was given a automatic breadmaker. The machine is new, but never heated and never could make bread. I also failed to make bread and I have much interest in doing so if I can get help with my machine, if they can fix it.

I await your response.
Thanks.

I cannot tell you how to fix your bread machine, but if it will go through the mix and knead cycles, you can make bread even if it doesn't heat. My bread machine works, but I have not used the heat cycles for years. I set it on the dough cycle.

As soon as it kneads the bread, I remove it from the machine and place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel and let it rise until double in bulk. Then shape it into a loaf, place it in a greased loaf pan, let it rise again until just an inch or two above the edge of the pan. Bake it in a 375º oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the pan and wrap in a towel to cool.

My bread maker, a Breville BBM100, has destroyed part of its pan seal kit - a tiny washer that would fit on the end of my pinky finger. No spares are available. I've searched and now found there were never spares for this model, which they still make. Do you have any ideas about something I could use to improvise a repair? I've tried local suppliers of nut and bolts, etc.

to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Repairing a Bread Machine -shaft showing missing part location

The little slot half way along the shaft in my photo is where the missing part goes, then the whole thing slides into the base of the bread pan. The end with the little arms slots into the drive mechanism and the bread paddle fits on the other end inside the pan. So my photo shows the shaft upside down. Cheers.

I have an old bread machine, Hitachi HB-B101. The machine seems to be working, but power does not transfer to the paddle and it does not knead dough. Does this mean the bottom of the pan is worn out and the parts are not clicking? I am hoping replacing a pan and paddle would fix the issue. But before purchasing anything, if possible, I would like to pin point the issue. I appreciate any advise.

Sounds like a belt needs replacing. You can unscrew the bottom and see where it goes. Contact Sunbeam and give them the model number. They can send you a replacement part.

it seems this is a common problem with bread machines. One answer given (sunbeam site) but I do not believe that will do it.

Remove the screws in the oven and the screw holding the heat element.

here is another answer but if this does not help you can ask your question on this same site and someone will help you (it is free).

I had the same issue. The timing/turning/drive belt has probably worn out and is disintegrating (thats what the little black plastic bits are). If you can find a replacement belt it should be easy to replace. There are videos on YouTube on how to replace the belt.

During baking a basic bread, I noticed that my kneading blade keeps on spinning until 20 minutes before completion of the baking and would not stop for the bread to start it's rising cycle. I switched off the machine and turned it on after some minutes.

It still continued spinning. I also observed that the body of the bread maker was warm as if it's baking. Please I need a fast solution.

You haven't mentioned a brand or model number in your question but I suspect in is the control board under the panel that has gone bad.

If it is broken, go to any yard sale or thrift shop and get another one. It's not worth fixing

I have an unused Silver Crest bread maker IAN 38170, which I picked up in a charity shop. When I turn it on to do the initial heat up suggested, it trips my RCD. It seems such a shame to bin it, does anyone know if there is a reset button or equivalent? I have been told by Lidl, where I have discovered it was originally sold, it is too old for them to repair and my local electrician says the part which has a minor fault cannot be reached.

Failing that would anyone like a gift of: baking mould; paddles; instruction book; recipe book. I just hate throwing things away and would be pleased if even some parts could be used.

An electrical problem like this is just too dangerous for a lay person to fool with and since you have already been told that it cannot be repaired - I agree that it should be dumped. As to the accessories - I'm like you - I do not like to throw usable things away so why not bag them up and donate them to one of your local thrift stores - preferably Hospice, but any church charity is better than Goodwill (sorry - my opinion).
