When Can I Bathe a Mommy Cat and New Kittens?

My mommy cat is still having her baby kittens at 12:25am on Tuesday the 22nd of January, 2008. She started at 7pm Monday the 21st. I was curious how soon I could bathe momma and the babies for fleas. How long does it take for a mommy kitty to have all her babies?

For the fleas...you can put Frontline on the momma cat to last for a month. It is safe for pregnant and lactating cats. Don't use the OTC flea products from the store. It doesn't take many fleas on a kitten to cause anemia, so use something that works on the mother. If the kittens were just born then they shouldn't have many fleas yet.

Just try to pick the fleas off of them. You can spray around the floor where the cat is to kill any fleas and eggs that may have fell off. Just make sure it is dry before any cats or kittens come in contact with the floor.

kittens need to be at leat 6-8 weeks old. It can kill them. It can also make them smell different and a new momma cat may refuse to feed them, thinking they are not her kittens.

Good luck with your mommy cat and new kittens. Please, please have your female cat spayed now because there are so many many unwated cats in this country.
