Thoughts on Valentine's Day

A red heart for Valentine's DayWith all the marketing and advertising to get you to spend your hard earned money on Valentine's Day gifts it is sometimes difficult to get back to the real reason why people really like the holiday. We all remember the little boxes of candy hearts and little Valentine cards we gave and received at school. As well as making beautiful paper mail boxes or envelopes where our Valentines could be deposited.

Maybe we looked for Valentines from a special boy or girl, looking for some special meaning in the one they chose. We made Valentine's for our parents out of heart shaped paper lace and red construction paper. Most of us grew up celebrating Valentine's Day. Although it was a holiday created by the card companies to sell us more cards, it has become more than that.

We love it. But what is it really about? It is about "Love" and showing your love. So, make sure that you express your love to your loved ones in your acts and deeds rather than throwing your money at it. Look them in the eyes and tell them that you love them.

Appreciate the friends and family in your life by telling them how you feel. Thank your boss and coworkers for making your life better. Appreciate your local officials, firefighters and police. Appreciate the local business people, the checker that helps you at the grocery store or the paper delivery people. Just some kind words of appreciation goes a long way and represents the best of what Valentines Day is about.

Email your internet friends or send them a funny ecard. Send ecards to your friends and relatives that are far away and let them know you love them.

We here at Thrifty Fun love and appreciate you because you are frank, practical, helpful and caring people. Thank you for being in our lives. Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day.
