It's according to what kind of smell you're wanting to get rid of. For normal household odors, caused by pets, etc. cups of plain vinegar placed throughout the house will work wonders. You won't smell the vinegar, but it will absorb the odors. God bless you!

The charcoal that you put on your bbq is not what you want to use, instead you would want to use "activated" charcoal.
