Yesterday, I had to send my 2 year old Siamese, Sarabi home to perch over the shoulder of our Lord, until I can join her once again. She came down very suddenly with wet FIP and there was nothing we could do. I held her and let her go with love whispered in her ear. She is buried at a family members house, who loves animals and will let me go sit with her whenever I need to.

My question is that I would like to get a piece of jewelry for my 7 year old Daughter and I to memorialize Sarabi. Not something with her picture, but maybe her name in the shape of a paw print or something. We both wear silver chains with a cross on them, so I am thinking something small to place on this chain.

I know my fellow Thrifty friends can help me out! P.S. This was my first animal of my own to die, I am sick with grief, being an adult stinks sometimes!

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious beloved pet. I lost my cat due to an illness 10 months ago. My heart is sad for you because your pain is so new. I know you are looking for a charm that you may purchase and I know with the many responses and suggestions you will certainly find the perfect one! When I lost my Sherbie I gathered the pictures I had of him, coppied a few poems and wrote my own memorial to him along with other little momentos. I placed this in a small scrapbook I created. This was such a comfort to look at when I was missing him. It certainly didn't cost alot to create but the book is priceless. I wish much comfort for you and your family due to your loss. Take care.

First let me say how sorry I am for your loss, it is so hard to lose a "family" member , even though they have 4 feet, they are still family. There is a web site
www.theanimalrescuesite.com they have a online store and it has anything "cat" that you could think of. It is worth looking, I am sure there would be something there that would be appropriate. My heart goes out to you, best of luck on the healing process. Leann

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

I am sorry as well..having lost many animals over the years, I am 63, it never gets easier. After the loss of one of the dogs, I was so tired of grieving I said I would never get another animal. I could not take the pain of their death. However, I gave in. I love the animals more I guess, than I hate the grieving. Go on line and search for "animal charms". I once had a lady make me a custom made squirrel pin to "remember" a pet squirrel that I had raised.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it is when a beloved pet dies. It can hurt just as much when you're an adult as when you're a child. For a memorial name tag to wear as a charm, www.drsfostersmith.com has a 14k gold cat name tag (search cat name tag). For silver, you might try www.petfulfillment.com, click on cat store, then "for you" and then "jewelry and accessories." This is the U.S. Humane Society's webstore. It is a little pricey, but the selection is nice.

Losing a pet is hard. You have my sympathy. Oriental trading has a lot of charms and I bet there is a kitty cat theme that you could purchase to make a bracelet or to add to a necklace.
Also-and this might not be too thrifty-but what about a sterling silver charm engraved with her name and date?
You said you didn't want a picture-what about those photo bracelets? They are easy to make and can be purchased for around $6.
