Harassing Neighbor?

I didn't really know where to ask this question. If you were being harassed by an unknown neighbor (drive by swearing vulgarities), what can be done? I have already notified PD. The car drives by fast and when my back is turned. Even when we're inside - we can hear through open screens.

I certainly would let the police deal with that. People are crazy now days and violence is all to common. Maybe the best response is what I used to tell my boys when they were being bothered at school. If you don't respond the fun is soon over for the tormentor and they'll stop. If you respond they have what they want. This might not help but then again maybe so. If you could I would move!

Did the police suggest setting up a video camera to catch the culprit? Position the camera so you can get the volume and the license of the car.

A picture is worth a thousand words and will stand up in court. I know people who have set up cameras, even myself, and it works!

Thank you and yes, to Linda - the police did suggest that and we did. We do have one shot that we know of but the license plate isn't legible - there are other features of the car that might help though (I am not savvy enough to set up the camera to take image I want and can't find manual : ). I thing just setting up the whole thing - stopped the harrassment - I will check with police if they found out anything.
To Glenn's Mom - we thought they would bore themselves and actually what seemed to make it stop was setting up the video camera. I did ignore it as "ignorant teenager stuff" at 1rst till the incidents continued and they were very vulgar. These kids don't even know me.

Thank You Both

Also, Glenn's Mom - I don't think the "victim" is the one that needs or should have to move - although that is the unfortunate case sometimes (also, we do want to move but not because of that). This we needed to respond to - it was harassment over a voting issue in town and it continued after the election! "Their side won!! Also, these were driveing age kids but maybe old enough to vote - but what the town was asking for wouldn't of come out of their pockets! Perhaps their parents but....
I think your idea is a good one for children but adults are a different story! : ) they can be a lot more immature - yes? My opinion. I don't necessarily consider an 18 year old per say an adult although legally they are - a lot of them don't act it.

There are more good than bad though.

See if you can borrow a security camera from someone to catch them in the act. You could try asking the public to help you find a camera to use by asking your local newspaper if they want to run a human interest story on your troubles with your neighbor. Just the publicity might stop the harassment.

1st be careful. Yes people and their behaviors are becoming stranger and stranger. How about having a tape recorder at the window. Then you would have proof of what is being said.

when you hear them coming turn on recorder. You could also sit outside very still like in camouflage. Take the photo when they go by.

I agree with the person who said to be very careful. Unfortunately harrassment is hard to prove unless you can get several others to witness.
Again please be careful because it could get much worse.

Pray that the Lord will give you wisdom. Note the times, EVERYTIME they pass, the color, make/modle, what the people inside are wearing/ look like, if at all possible. Not that you can catch them, but if anything worse happens, you will have given this info to someone else to go by if needed. Times are dangerous, and it's really hard for the kids, old and young, so try to look at it as

boredom activity for them, perhaps the few times they get to drive? Don't react, and they will get more bored and go elsewhere. If you show anger, they will consider it a challenge as immature as they must be, even if adults.

God bless and help you. : )
