Maple Pecan Squares

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine the first 3 ingredients in a bowl. Mix until crumbly. Press mixture firmly into a 9x9 inch nonstick baking dish. Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven.

Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F. Combine 2/3 cup brown sugar and syrup in a saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes. Cool slightly. Pour syrup over eggs in bowl, stirring constantly. Stir in 1/4 cup butter, salt, pecans, vanilla and 2 Tbsp. flour, and mix well. Spread over partially baked crust. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for 20 minutes. Cool, and cut into squares.
