Stagger Canned Foods to Store More

I found when storing can goods in a staggered form, you can get more on a shelf. I have a very narrow shelf in my pantry and could get only a few cans in. When I began to put one as far back on the shelf as possible and then the other as far front as possible (touching each other) then I could get several more on the shelf. I guess you could do this with a deeper shelf also.
