Try a product called "Nature's Miracle." Many pet owners know about this, it's a liquid made of enzymes that eat odor causing bacteria. You can get it at Petsmart or other pet stores. It really works, follow the instructions. Some commercial carpet cleaning products really are good at removing stains and smells too. You could call and ask someone who does the detailing-cleaning at a car rental place. They deal with really gross things all the time in rental returns. They may not help, but it never hurts to ask the experts, huh? If all else fails, I think I'd replace the carpetting, making sure to clean the floorboards while the old carpeting is out.

I left a package of frozen fish in the seat of my car. Does anyone know how to get the smell out? Help

I'd recommend the un-used coffee grounds also. The cheap kind is fine! (not instant). Sprinkle over everything & close the van tight. Many commercial businesses use this method. Or, the vinegar method of which the smell will not remain permanently. And a huge dose of patience to allow the products to "do their thing".

I just got a recipe to get rid of skunk smell on a dog.I haven't tried it yet.But I would think skunk and fish smell fall in the same category: 1qt. 3% hydrogen peroxide formula(from pharmacy) 1/4 cup baking soda 1tsp.liquid soap(dawn dish soap) Mix together and scrub the area. Hope it works for you
Archived Request: Fish Left for Too Long in Van
| We accidentally left some fresh fish from the market in our starex van for 2 days under the sun. It's been nearly a month since but our van still smells of rotten fish. We've tried putting a pack of charcoal inside the van for a week already but to no avail. Car fresheners can't mask the smell either. Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Alex T. |

| Try sprinkling ground coffee around all the areas that you can. For some reason, coffee grounds absorb odor better than anything I know of. Where I used to work, we used it in long-haul trailers that had been hauling hanging meat to get rid of the smell of blood. |

| I would try diluted vinegar water and spray every inch of your vans interior. It may seem strong but once truly dry vinegar leaves no odor but it is an excellent odor remover. You could even add some lemon juice to make it smell a bit better. Or just try lemon juice water alone. They are mildly acidic odor removers not just cover ups. You may have to repeat if it dries to quickly. |
