Remember to look into your local Technical High School. Ours has a bakery, open to the public once a week with inexpensive and delicious baked goods. You can even order birthday cakes from there.

The horticulture class sells starter plants in the spring, and the electronics class makes repairs, all at low cost.

We have even gotten automotive repairs and auto body work done just for the price of parts by taking our car to the local Community college auto repair school. They have always treated us fairly and of course they are being graded so they do a really good job! Just keep in mind you might have to schedule in advance so the instructor can work it into his classes.
