To clean out water from your ears combine 1 cup alcohol to 1 cup vinegar. 1 to 1. With an ear dropper put in 3 or 4 drops. It is amazing how this dries up the water. It made an infection go away too.

Editor's Note: I've never heard this one before. It is always best to check with your medical practitioner before trying something in your ears.

I have tried every thing and it won't work. We don't have any vinegar so I think I am stuck. It really hurts!

My mom and I have weirdly shaped ear lobes and they face downward so when water settles and it HURTS we have been trying EVERYTHING. We put alcohol in our ears and laid our heads down for like 5-10 seconds and when we lifted them back up it worked perfectly!

Hydrogen Peroxide works just fine I just got my ear plugged up with that horrible wax and I asked my brother and he said just use peroxide. I did it it did hurt with the bubbling but it was dissolving the wax and after a while I can hear, it only lated like 30-45 min not the entire night.

I tried the alcohol and it work really fast. I didn't have a dropper so I place the alcohol in the alcohol bottle cover then used a small piece of cotton that when filled will hold 3-4 drops. Then I tested the cotton by squeezing it out to ensure that i wouldn't squeeze more than 4 drops. I place the 4 drops of alcohol in my affected ear, waited 4-5 seconds and then turned my affected ear towards the ground and gravity did the rest. Good luck.

Simply jumping up a couple of inches and landing on your heels only works great for me, I do it with flip flops on, try it see if it works for you! May take more than one time to do it. Good luck

None or these are working for me. Not the "blowdryer," not the "rubbing alcohol", not "laying on my side", not anything. Can someone give me something that will work. I'm missing school because of this.

You can get it out of your ears by just simply sleeping on the affected side of your ear. They say the pull of gravity pushes it out!
It works!

I am afraid to try anything because I have broken ear drums from so many absesses and also a tube im my ear and I am an adult. I have had so much ear problems all my life. I tried the vinegar and water method but just one syringe full and the pain was so great from pressure inside my ear, but this is what the Dr. told me to do. Is there any other methods to use. The Dr. told me I do have water in my ear behind the tube and I need to get it removed some how. Does anyone know any other way that is not so painful.

I just came back from a 2 hour swim last night and had a blocked ear. I've had it before but after pounding my head, pulling on my ear, or sleeping on the blocked ear, the water usually comes out. This was the first time I slept a whole night and the water was still in there. It was a full 12 or 13 hours with a blocked ear.

I didn't want to get an infection and just leave the water so I mixed rubbing alcohol and vinegar together and dropped about 6 tiny drops into my ear and it cleared right up! Thanks everyone who suggested that!

Putting in over-the-counter drops could make earwax slide down the ear canal and push back the eardrum. If it is wax that is far back in the ear canal it should be removed at a doctor's office.

Yes, but actually it is easier by far to take the hairdryer (make sure the setting is not too high) to the ears. After a bit of research I found that using the hairdryer is the recommended method of removing water from the inner ear particularly when the ear drum had been pierced

I've been using a mixture of 1 part peroxide to 1 part alcohol, for nearly 3 years now. I just put a Qtip into the mixture and let it drip into my ear. The next day my ears are just fine. I've never heard of putting vinegar in your ears, but I've heard it's a 'cure all'.

I have definitely heard and tried this one. Got it from a Home Remedies book. The vinegar kills the bacteria, and the alcohol is to help the solution dry up in the ear quicker.

I think that swimmer's ear drops are equal parts of alcohol, vinegar and peroxide.

My 40-year-old son, who as a child had to have a mastoidectomy and polpectomy, has always used just plain alcohol in his ear the moment he gets out of the shower or a pool. He hasn't had an ear infection since he was a kid and says without hesitation that the alcohol is what gets the water out completely. If he didn't do this, because of a pocket that developed after the surgery, he would constantly be having ear infections.

My husband has had ear problems since he was a child. After years and years of perscriptions our family doctor finally told him to make a solution like this. He said it is basically just what is in the ear drops you get from the pharmacy.

If you catch the water right away, (like just getting out of the shower or pool) just add a few drops of regular water and let the 2 combine. You will know when that happens (you will feel it and hear it). When they combine, tilt your head so the affected side is down (I do this tilting rather quickly) and all of the water will come out at once. Be sure to dry the ear carefully and be careful if you are using Q-Tips or anything of that kind because it doesn't take much to perforate the ear drum.

Yes!! Finally some people who will support me!! Ha! My family think I am just nutso! My 2-year-old and 5-year-old have never ever been to the doctor for ear infections because this is what I use on their ears, too! I use a solution of vinegar with just a little bit of warm water and put three drops in their ears before bed and then in the morning and it should clear up any ear pains within minutes! I use it also on my ears! When i was pregnant with my first child, I had such painful, painful ear infections I would lie awake screaming at night. They couldn't really give me anything because of me being pregnant so i just suffered. With my second child, i read in Parents Magazine where you use a few drops of vinegar. I started coming down with the ear infections again and put the drops in and the pain was instantly gone along with the swelling and fluid! It was wonderful! Now, whenever I know my kids are coming down with sinus infections, that's what I give them. If they do have infections, it will sting for a couple of seconds but then the pain is gone and within a day so is the infection. (sorry this is sooo long) Vinegar is known to kill bacteria. So, I did a little experiment. When my daughter came down with sinus cold, in one ear I didn't do the drops and in the other i did. I ended up taking her to the doctor for her checkup and the one ear that I didn't put vinegar in was swollen and red and the other was perfectly fine! He wanted to prescribe her antibiotics but I asked if I could wait a day and then come back in and check up on them. So, I went home, put the vinegar in her ears that night and the next morning, and at her checkup, the ear was all better! Just a little testimony and it really doesn't do any harm to put them in your ears because I've been doing it with myself and my 2-year-old (since she was an infant!) and 5-year-old and we still hear fine! Thanks for listening!

An older physician that I used to go to as a child DID recommend dropping a few drops of rubbing alcohol in ears to dry them and clean them out. I have done this and it works great! I have never heard of the vinegar, but it may work well, too. I would, however, ask your physician. I know from past experience that we have to be careful about what we put in our ears. Check it out! Vinegar might do the trick but I know that alcohol alone works, too. Thanks.
