Dad's Favorite Hamburger

Mom made this up because dad needed a healthier Burger.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup onion- diced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper- diced
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. of garlic powder
  • A couple of teaspoonful of "Wheat Hearts" uncooked cereal*
*I haven't been able to find any for a few years now. I think Cream of Wheat would work though. If you want to try it.

Directions:

Mix all ingredients, except salt, in a bowl and form patties. Use the 1/8 teaspoon salt to sprinkle in a hot iron skillet and fry to sear both sides, then turn fire down to finish cooking.

Mom used this with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, green onions, dill pickles, and yellow mustard (no mayo), on whole wheat buns.

Oh yes, she allowed him 6 black olives with it (Diabetic).

Servings: 4-5
Time:30 - 45 Minutes Preparation Time
18 - 25 Minutes Cooking Time

You can mix 1/3 ground chicken with the 2/3 ground beef and with the add-ins you may either not taste the difference or not mind it. I don't like ground turkey, but ground chicken mixes well, for my diet. Good luck. Changing taste patterns is sometimes hard but is worth it. Tip: broccoli (raw or not raw/limp-overcooked isn't appetizing any way-My opinion) is really nutritious and will be eaten a lot of times with non-fat ranch dressing by people who wouldn't touch it otherwise...adults and kids.
