This came home from school with my 4th grader one day last week:

20 Easy Tips On Being Green*

  1. If it glows, unplug it until you are ready to use it
  2. Dress for the weather
  3. When carpooling-turn your car off
  4. Cleaning? Use distilled vinegar, baking soda and liquid detergent
  5. Spill something? Use a wash cloth instead of paper towels
  6. Don't want it? Donate it!
  7. Eat vegetarian once a week. It is easier on the environment to raise produce than to raise animals
  8. Widen the margins on your Word documents
  9. Reuse the cup sleeves from your coffee shop
  10. If it doesn't stink or is not stained, re-wear it!

And after I read this I happened to turn around, hold please while I turn off the light.

Its easier to be green then people might think, just make sure you talk about it to others and get them thinkign too.

Yeah... I turn my car off while waiting for a long train to pass by & also while waiting in line at a fast-food restaurant like Taco Bell if the line is long.... I've heard there's a "One minute Rule" that means If you're going to be idling for more than one minute, it takes less gas to restart your car than you'd use sitting there idling, so go ahead & turn it off while you wait.

-- Also, why use a whole paper towel when half of one will do?

I like the point about idling. When you pop into the corner store to buy your milk, etc. turn off your vehicle. People shouldn't be surprised if their car is stolen while they just "pop in for a minute." Even when I pick up the kids in winter, if I know that I have to wait for them, I'll dress appropriately so that I can turn off the engine.
