I was weeding the peony bush I have planted under the mailbox. I
checked to see if I got all the weeds and much to my surprise this
garter snake was looking back at me.
Thank you for the beautiful picture - garter snakes are the only snakes I know well enough not to be frightened of - in fact, I really like seeing them. Mean brat that I was, when I was about 10, I took one into the house and said, "Grandma, look what I found!" as I put it on the living room floor. She never moved so fast, and I've always carried the guilt of scaring one of my most beloved family members!
