This is my grandmother's recipe for chocolate pie, I can remember being able to smell her cooking it from outside and I would come running.
Chocolate Pie
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 3 Tbsp. flour
Add:
Beat in:
- 2 egg yolks (reserve white for topping)
Cook until thick, remove from heat and add:
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. butter
Put in unbaked pie shell. Bake until crust is done
If you want, you can beat the egg whites to make a meringue. Put on pie and bake 7 - 8 minutes (until meringue is done).
Pie Meringue
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
I usually make 2 pies and have the Double recipe handy:
Double Recipe
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 Tbsp. cocoa
- 6 Tbsp. flour
Add:
- 2 2/3 cups milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 tsp. butter
Follow instructions above.
