Charcoal briquettes, baking soda, or coffee grounds are all good odor absorbers. Give one or all of them a try as well.

Wash with warm water and soap. Leave open to the sun. A day of sun should do it but leave longer if need to. My husband put fish in ours and it worked on that.

Wad a bunch of newspapers up and put them inside the cooler. Leave for a few days. Don't know how this works but it does.

Try putting a dish of kitty litter inside and closing it if you can alternate leaving it open and in the sun it would help too.

If you have nasty odors in your picnic coolers, just rub them down with a good dose of vanilla. For extra tough odors, leave the rag in the cooler and shut the lid overnight.

Request: Odors in a Picnic Cooler

Archived on 07/15/2009

If you have nasty odors in your picnic coolers, just rub them down with a good dose of vanilla. For extra tough odors, leave the rag in the cooler and shut the lid overnight. This also works well for Tupperware container odors. Then wash the container out.

Vanilla is one of my favorite scents, but another way to get rid of odors in a container is to fill it with crumpled up newspaper, close tightly and leave it for a few days. (04/06/2007)

Recycle dryer sheets for this purpose, then afterwards place them in the linen and lingerie drawers. God bless you. (06/10/2007)
