I hope that you're getting some Vitamin B-12 in your diet. I'm vegetarian and don't eat any meat or poultry, but I do eat fish, eggs and cheese for necessary Vitamin B-12. I don't drink milk because it contains hormones that add too much body fat. So I use rice milk in place of cow's milk.
Now to answer your question about a vegan substitute for cottage cheese. Use tofu in place of cottage cheese.
