American Automobile Association will help you plan a tour. You would need to join which costs about $90 a year but would include roadside assistance if you have any problems on your trip.
Go to: http://www.aaa.com
Checking with the Tourist Information Centers in each state and province might help, use Google to look for these sites. I searched under (state name) tourist info.
Each state in the U.S. should have one.
Here is
Massachusetts: http://www.masstourist.com/
Virginia: http://www.virginia.org/home.asp
Montreal: http://www.montreal.com/tourism/general.html
This is an RV Rental site:
http://www.cruiseamerica.com/
and a directory of places to rent RVs

Because you are going to be driving in the U.S. and Canada it would be good to have an International Driver's License.

Here is a Virtual Tourist Information Center site:

It requires signing up so you can plan your trip. How it works is a little baffling to me so I'm not sure it will help you.
Here are some books recommended:

My best advice is to plan well and make sure that you have an RV (camper car) reserved and plan some destinations. Make sure you are renting from a reputable dealer.
I could help you with your plan a lot more if you were visiting the West Coast because I know more about it. I know there are a lot of Easterner's on this list so feel free to jump in those of you that live back East.
