Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. Velveeta cheese (8 oz.)
  • 1 pkg. elbow macaroni, cooked and drained (7 oz.)

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Make white sauce in a medium pan, melt margarine; add flour and salt, and stir until smooth and thick. Then add the milk. Cook over low heat until sauce thickens. Add cheese, reserving 1/4 of the Velveeta cheese; stir until melted. Layer half of the macaroni and cheese sauce in 1 1/2 qt. casserole; repeat layers. Top with slices of remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes.

My family has a similar recipe, but probably much more 'old fashion'.
Replace Velveeta with REAL CHEESE (cheddar or Colby)
Top with: crushed corn flakes mixed with 3 tbls melted butter.
Then bake and you have a real treat!
