Border Collies are supposed to be the smartest of all breeds. Be careful. My Dad had a Labrador Retriever that he let out, and the dog ran into a bunch of ducks in a lake. My Dad and another neighbor had to take a ladder out to the water the ducks had kept open during the winter, and they rescued the Labrador Retriever during our cold winter months in Northern Indiana. Everyone turned out fine.
