Finch Bird Feeder Advice

Do finches need yellow on a bird feeder to eat from it?

No, just fill the feeder with niger (thistle) seed and once the finches find it, you'll have a feeder full of goldfinches, house finches and purple finches. Make sure that you use either a thistle sock feeder or the thistle ports in your regular feeder. Otherwise far too much seed gets wasted. Good luck and enjoy the birds!!

No - birds can't recognize color. In addition to the thistle mentioned by readingiggits, they will also eat black sunflower seeds. That's all I buy because it isn't wasted as much as thistle is, and I have loads of different types of finches dine at my house regularly! Enjoy your birds and God bless you.

I buy hulled sunflower seeds and there is no waste, no leftover hulls to clean up. ALL the birds LOVE them

If you want to attract the little yellow finches get the feeder where the birds sit on the perch and reach down below to feed. (the upside down feeder) You will attract them in no time.
