Inexpensive Party In New Zealand

I am turning 40 in October. I would like to have an inexpensive but fun get together of about 20 of my girlfriends. I live in a small town in New Zealand and we are in the middle of a very cold and chilly winter.

Does anyone have any ideas for an inexpensive but fun way to spend an evening together that is not going to cost me a fortune and please remember that we do not have things like your wonderful $1 stores here. I do not want to ask my guests to bring a plate of food.

I would very much appreciate your ideas for a fun night with dear friends to celebrate this milestone in my life.

Thanks so much,
Ang

How about a movie-thon or a SLUMBER party, like girls used to have when we were younger? Have everyone bring their favorite pillow/blanket so you don't have to come up with 20 of them. Eat hor derve (sp?) type food such as cheese ball, crackers, polska kielbalsa, etc. Have a Happy Birthday!

How about an indoor luau with luau decorations and drinks. Watch a Hawaiian theme movie. Make leis from silk flowers. Or, do a chick flick nite, lite some candles, wine , pizza, salad and cake to eat. do pedicures, play a board game or 2 or three. Everyone can bring a favorite. Favors could be new nailpolish and toe-separators, candles, etc.

The $1.00 stores aren't all that wonderful. A lot of what they sel is junk or junky.
