Big Bear is 4 years old. Bear is a mixed breed of chow chow and black lab. Bear adopted us 3 years ago. He was allowed to run loose, and became our porch watcher. When his family moved, we invited him to join our family.
Bear loves to play tug of war and gives great "Bear hugs!" Bear was neglected and abused at the beginning of his life. He now gives as much love as he receives. He is a welcomed member of our family and there's never a moment when we aren't protected by him. He's usually laid back, but will jump to attention at the slightest alert.

OMG! I have Little Bear!
Our love of our neighbor's black lab-chow (Emily) inspired a search for our own following the death of our black lab-german pointer. In April 2011, we adopted a 5-month old black lab chow mix from a rescue group & re-named him Sebastian. (While Emily's appearance & temperament scream English Lab (show dog), Sebastian, her long-legged, hi-octane, mini-me exhibits more chow (+ little devil traits.) And, because I'd inadvertently coined Emily's nick-name "Bunny Bear" (within a month of her adoption), Sebastian became my Bunny Boy. Although he still answers to Bunny Boy, it didn't stick as well as Bunny Bear & eventually morphed into my "Little Bear".

We also have a lab/chow mix named Toby. He has more of the lab look with fold-down ears, but has the round chow head, black tongue and curvy tail. Sadly, he also had a rough beginning to his life, 3 homes in a year. We adopted him from a shelter 8 years ago and he has been a wonderful boy! Thank you for giving Bear a good home, too.
From the picture, for a moment, I thought you were a family who were being nice to a bear! And I thought you were plumb crazy! Then I realized it was a dog. Phew! I need more caffeine!
Big Bear is sending you all "Big Bear Hugs"! Thank you for the compliments. He's quite the ladies man! :)
Wow he is gorgeous, love the name too. I had never seen a Chow/Lab mix and he is so handsome. I am glad he has a great home with love now. Please give him hugs from me.
I thought it was a bear before I read the caption. I used to have a black lab named Little Bear.
What a great photo and dog! He does just look like a bear. My Chow looks more like a fluffy teddy bear than the real thing :)
