Cabbage Stroganoff

Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup bacon drippings or veg. oil
  • 1 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 pound ground sirloin
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped coarsly

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 8 oz. pkg. noodles

Directions

In a large heavy skillet, heat bacon drippings or oil; saute onions until limp, add beef, crumbling with fork and cook until browned. Add cabbage and 3/4 cup water. Cover and simmer over medium heat 'til cabbage is wilted.

Sprinkle with onion soup mix and stir, mixing well. Add mushroom soup; rinse can with remaining 1/4 cup water, and add that water to the skillet. Stir in sour cream, cover and simmer over low heat for 45 min. Add cooked noodles and combine or serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Source: I don't remember where I got the recipe. I have had it for more than 30 years.

Made this last night, my husband loved it.We tried it over noodles and over mashed potatoes.AWESOME!! This would be great over rice or it's delicious by itself.
