Salt and Pepper Shakers for Camping or a Picnic |
|
|
Punch a few small holes in the lid of a film canister and fill it with salt or pepper, put a piece of plastic wrap over the top and then snap the lid on. Toss into your picnic basket. To use, remove the plastic wrap and put the lid, now a shaker top, back on.

I use the film canisters for salad dressings to pack in lunches. I also found them handy for small amounts of pancake syrup when taking breakfast to work.

When we used film canisters for Girl Scout projects...mainly for the lip gloss we had made. I boiled all of the containers and lids first. This way anything that was in them came out and then also washed them in hot soapy water.

info from Kodak regarding safety of film canisters for food: There are no "toxic residues" in Kodak film containers. Because our film containers are not manufactured to comply with FDA or CPSC requirements, Kodak cannot recommend the use of film containers for anything other than their intended manufactured purpose. However, if a customer chooses to use a Kodak film container for other than film storage, the container first should be thoroughly washed with soap and water.
