Getting the Juice out of Lemons

To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them between your hands or on the counter (or table) before squeezing.

Saving Money on Cheese

To save money on cheese we buy the 10 lb. bag of store brand shredded cheddar or mozzarella and freeze it in individual small freezer bags in 2 or 4 cup amounts. No need to throw out moldy cheese anymore. Freezing cheese and butter are two dairy products whose properties won't change from it.

Laundry Pre-Wash Mix

This recipe was passed on to me; it works well so would like to share this "Cheap" recipe mix with others. This is similiar to Spray & Wash and costs a lot less!

  • 1/2 cup ammonia
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 2 Tablespoons liquid soap
  • 2 quarts water

Store in an old plastic milk jug; label the contents in the jug, now fill your spray bottle with this mix and use the same way as the purchased versions recommend.

TIP: It's always a good idea to save old spray bottles and recycle them.

Shop at Local Farmer's Market

All the tasty, fresh, summer fruits and vegetables are available NOW at your local farmers' markets. I think it's a great idea for us to shop at these markets and support our local farmers. The prices are usually very reasonable, and the produce is fresh. Buy a little extra produce when you see a real bargain to can, freeze, or share with a friend or neighbor.

Wet Swimsuit Tip

When you travel throw in a few extra zip-lock bags They are great for wet swimsuits, a half-full bottle of shampoo, some animal crackers for the car, or even to fill with ice at the motel to use in the cooler while you drive.
