Wildlife: Hungry Mama Squirrel

contest winner icon
For the past few months, my parents had been talking non-stop about this squirrel family that frequents their backyard for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I went up for a visit last week.

Early in the morning, I heard a knock at the window where they usually leave sunflower seeds for the squirrels. I opened the blinds and there she was: Mother squirrel, anxiously waiting for fresh food. She's quite a character!

OMG! She is just adorable! I can see she is lactating, so she must have her babies somewhere safe. She is depending on you to feed her now that she has babies to feed. I think it is wonderful that your Mom feeds her, she is now like an extended member of your household.

She really does bang on the window! I have a few other shots where you can see her greasy little handprints all over the window. I love how she has leftovers all over her mouth and the "who, me?!" look on her face. ;)

This looks more like Grandma squirrel. So Cute! I had a momma and baby that banged on my door every day so I would feed them. I guess they are gone now. Haven't seen them in quite a while. Maybe since the neighbor moved in with her 4 kitties.

That is just so cute! Does she really knock on the window to get your attention? How fun is that?

I can't say whether my great-grandpa's favorite squirrels were male or female, but they were characters, too. At least one would sit on Grandpa's chest and share breakfast, lol!

What a wonderful photo! That's only the second one I've ever seen with a mama having full breasts with milk! You have quite a gem of a picture here! :-)

Oh my! Reminds me of one time we went to the OKC zoo & there was a *very* pregnant gorilla. Ready to feed those babies!

Squirrels can be funny. Our back fence is their highway. The neighbor to the west has pecan trees that he doesn't take care of. The squirrels all live to the east. So we watch them run back and forth. We leave dried corn on our plant stand (against the fence) and they stop along the way to see what's new. :-)

Wildlife: Impatient Squirrel

A squirrel knocking on the window, looking for food. This is a squirrel that visits my parents house three times a day for feeding. I always tell my friends about how she impatiently knocks on the window and demands food but no one ever believes me, until now! I finally caught her in the act. As you can see, those are some massive paws, so we can hear her knocking from the other side of the house!
