How long until dog distemper is no longer contagious to other dogs?

My first puppy a hundred million years ago , got distemper as a young dog. It left her with a cough her whole life. She left me one day when I was in 9th grade, and I was 3 when she found me. I am now in my supposedly golden years ? :-) rose
