Little Friend at the Hummingbird Feeder
I love hummingbirds and think that many of the feeders make wonderful garden accessories. Here is my feeder with a little friend!

Hummingbirds are amazing. I seem to get one and only one each year in my phlox. Recently I heard that hummingbirds are disappearing the same way honey bees are. I hope this is not true.

You are right, the red color harms the precious little birds. The recipe I have is 1 cup of boiled cooled water to 4 parts cane sugar not beet sugar. Boiling the water gets the chlorine out of the water. Do a little research on Homemade Hummingbird Food on the net. Have fun watching. They are a joy to watch.

I loved your picture. They are so entertaining. I belong to a bird watching group for many years and we do bird counting for the state. I wanted to tell you about putting red food coloring in the water. We have found out that this eventually does harm to the little beauties. Just make your sugar water without the coloring and they will still come. There have been many studies and the dye will kill them. If you know of others that feed them, please pass this info on to them. We want to keep them safe.
