my husband cuts ours for any projects on his band saw. but he leaves on the film that comes on it while cutting it, i guess to keep it from getting jagged edges. i have seen him score it too real good with about 2 good score lines then lay it against a straight surfaces edge and then apply pressure to the part hanging over and it pops loose perfectly when a nice clean cut line. not sure if that last method would work though on large pieces of the plexy glass, it does on smaller sizes though. maybe the hgtv web site would be able to answer your question as well.
If you will go to the hardware store and ask, they will show you the tool that you need to cut plexiglass. It is not difficult to do - you have to "score" it several times for it to break.
