I use little zippered bags made for holding makeup in a purse. In one, I keep everything I need to have with me (lipstick, pill case, dental floss, tiny mirror, and comb). I keep an extra set of keys in the inside zippered compartment of the purse itself.
The purse I am using currently has a zippered compartment in the center of the purse, too. This divides the purse into two sections. I keep my wallet on one side and tissues along with sunglasses on the other side of the divider.
This particular purse also has a strap inside for attaching your key chain. It makes it really easy to reach in and grab the strap to detach the key ring. When you purchase a new handbag, buy one that is easily organized. Don't buy a big pit in which to throw everything you own. Keep it simple.

I love the idea of using cosmetic bags to organize my purse. I have lots of them, all in a cupboard. Now I know what to do with them. Thumbs up! As far a my purse, I don't like many zippered compartments. I have to un-zip every one of them before I can find what I am looking for.
