Baked Beans left on too long have burnt the bottom of a Stainless Steel pan with copper middle. A thin black hardish sludge remains! Help. Mum will kill me!

Thanks All, Thanks for the advice. The "paste" of Dishwashing Machine Powder left soaking did the job. Regards, Brendan.

I have always had great results using dishwasher detergent and a little water in the pan, bring it to a boil and then let it sit for a few hours

Baking soda and a little water even just the soda sprinkeled on but a little water is best let it set for hours even all night this should do it it works for me on everything I have tried it on. Love that baking soda!!

These ideas are good, but you might try a solution of baking soda and water (1/4 cup soda to the pan full of water) and let soak a few hours or overnight--after bringing to a boil and turning off the heat. This has the advantage of using something (soda) that is probably already on your mom's shelf!

fill with water and put in a dryer sheet or two and let it sit over night. It will take A LOT if not all of the stuff off. At least this works with stuck on food, which is probably part of this problem as well.

try Bar Keepers Friend. You just put some on a damp cloth and rub it around to make a paste, then rub in onto the spot on the pan. It works great.
