My trick is to find a bath towel, shower curtain, or pillow or rug, even a picture, at a store. Something I can relate the existing color to (or something in the same family of color). The color pallet of those things always helps me make a good choice. Sage is a "muted" color, and if you want some drama you could go with a muted purple!
