Ham Loaf without Ham

Another interesting variation, also very good!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1/2 lb. hot dogs, ground
  • 1 cup cracker crumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • pepper, to taste
Glaze:
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar

Directions:

Mix first 6 ingredients together well. Mix glaze ingredients together. Add 1/2 to meat mixture and shape into balls. Place into baking dish and top with remaining glaze. Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour.

Servings: varies according to size of meat balls
Prep Time: 20 Minutes
Cooking Time: 60 Minutes

Robin, how do you grind the hot dogs? I don't have a meat grinder; would a food processor do the trick? Thanks

I make a similar "spam meal with a glaze" and this recipe gave me an idea for a new recipe. The only difference in the ingredients that I use and this one is the ground beef, hot dogs and the salt and pepper.

I will use spam instead of the hot dogs (ground) and no salt because I find spam very salty already. and the rest of the ingredients are the same as mine.

The meatballs sound great and I will serve it with white rice like the "sweet and sour meatball with white rice" dish we know. Can't wait to try this. Thanks for the inspiration.
