Many of us have school age or younger children who we will be caring for and educating at home over the next six to eight weeks while their schools are closed. We need to handle their fears, their disappointments, but also their boredom.

Living in Washington and Oregon we are also finding out about social isolation. For the next couple months not only all public events are cancelled but all restaurants are carry-out only. We are limiting contact with vulnerable family members.

And we face the specter of actual illness either for us or our family or the hardships that will be caused by layoffs. As a small business we have no idea what this will mean for our livelihoods and the ad revenue we rely on.

We have cause for hope because in many ways the challenges that we face are best handled by the principles that we already value. We have always championed self reliance, making do with what we have, being creative, and kindness. We've been sharing frugal living advice for over twenty years and in these times we hope a lot of the tips and recipes on our site will help people.

We are publishing a series of articles about coping with the Coronavirus and life with a family in social isolation. If you have any ideas, please Share Them. If you have any questions, please Ask Them. Together we will all be able to get through this time.

Yes, this is a challenging time, for everyone, and it is a time of uncertainty. I like to encourage everyone that we will get through this. I am encouraged, daily, how community is coming together, throughout America. We are a nation to be proud of.
