Back Panel of Gas Dryer?

March 10, 2021

I have a new Maytag gas dryer, but it is deeper than my previous dryer. I have removed the back panel to allow extra space for the vent pipe, and so I can close an adjoining door.

Is it safe to leave this back panel off? It is not structural.

I do not believe you should leave this panel off due to accumulation of dust that is around any dryer.
But; that said; you should contact the store where purchased and ask them your question as otherwise you may be violating your warranty and that would not be good.
If you do not wish to go this route then you need to contact someone who knows if this is safe or what else can you do.
There are some forums that help with problems like this but it will be a little trouble as you have to join the group and they may want pictures to better understand your problem:

You can always contact Maytag but most likely they will tell you to contact the store where purchased.

I would definitely contact Maytag to see if it is OK to leave the back panel off the dryer. (This doesn't sound safe IMHO.) Here's the manual for a Maytag gas dryer.

It is not safe to do that.

No. That back panel acts as a fire wall. It needs to stay on.
