Caring for a Dog with Parvo?

Tucker is 6 months old weighing 39lbs because he lost weight from being sick. 2 days ago we took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with parvo. Due to price we did 2 injections and an IV drip and were sent home with nausea meds and antibiotics.

24 hrs after bring home he drank water from the hose, but will not eat and we are now 72 hrs later. What should I incorporate into his care or should I be worried? How much water and electrolytes should he be receiving a day to stay hydrated? When should I expect him to eat?

He seemed happy yesterday, but not so much today.

Follow the Vet's advice, this is slow coming. Each dog is slightly different. It's good that he is taking in liquids.

Try giving him small amounts of food at a time, even if you have to hand feed him. He will be his old self in time.

How is the pup faring? Prayers for healing. The vet should have given explicit instructions for care and that is what should be followed.

I know parvo survivors and all the pet parents followed the vet guidance to the letter.

Please do not take treatment guidance from social media sources. Every pup is different so what works for one may not work for another.

Post back with an update.

You vet has given instruction on what to do for your dog. I had one dog that was treated at home and one that had to stay at the vet's for over a week. The dog who stayed at home did not eat for close to 5 days after the shots. He did drink a lot of watre which is necessary.

When my dog finally stated to eat he would only eat small amount of rice and pasta. This lasted for a few days and then he started to eat more. As long as the dog is drinking he will be fine. I know he will lose weight but he will get it back.

This is a difficult disease. It is possible he is still getting healed from it. By now he should be regaining appetite, but if he doesn't, it's still not too late. Chicken soup and broth should help out.
