Cat Fighting With Neighborhood Cat?

Today my cat came back from wandering and sat near the door where she was going to out of again. Then she saw something outside which caught her attention which wasn't pleasant because 1 of our neighbourhood cats was outside sniffing around my garden. My cat was hissing at it and the cat starting chasing my cat. It chased her into a jungle type grass full with branches. My cat's hair was on end and she was very scared and she kept on hissing at the cat that was closing in on her.

I wasn't so sure what to do so I started poking a long stick at the cat that was a danger to mine and made roaring sounds and scared it away. My cat ran off also. I want my cat to become friends with that cat, but I can't see that happening. Please can someone help?

I think you are going to have trouble making these two cats friends. They are very stubborn about that kind of thing. It seems they get used to each other with time, but that is about all. To keep the aggression down get a squirt bottle or squirt gun and keep it handy.

A spray of water sends most cats running and you dont need to scare your own cat in the process. I have a squirt bottle on my kitchen counter at all times. It squirts long and straight. Now if I could just find a holster... :)

Better yet, have a number of squirt bottles, and even maybe a soaker...one of those guns that shoots a stream of water a long way.

If you are sure it is a stray, you could borrow a trap from the shelter and catch it humanely and then take it to the shelter. That is only if it is feral, wild, dangerous cat.
