Nothing better than pulling up a fresh crab pot and cooking this comforting chowder!



Thaw crabmeat, if frozen. In a medium saucepan cook zucchini and sweet pepper in hot margarine or butter until crisp-tender. Stir in the flour. Add the milk, green onion, bouquet garni seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly. Add the cream cheese; cook and stir until cream cheese melts. Stir in the crabmeat and snipped thyme; heat through.

Garnish each serving with additional fresh thyme, if desired.

Tastes great, easy to make and gets lots of compliments.



Mash boiled potatoes then add other ingredients to the pot.

Simmer slowly for 5 - 6 minutes.

This is a great soup that can be used with real or imitation crab meat.

Total Time: 30-35 minutes

Yield: 4-6 servings


  • 3 potatoes, peeled and chopped ($pennies)
  • 1 onion ($.69)
  • 2 tsp margarine
  • 1/2 cup crab meat ($.85)
  • 1/4 cup flour ($pennies)
  • 3 cups 2% or skim milk ($.75)
  • 3 cups water ($pennies)
  • pepper, to taste
  • salt, to taste


  1. Brown onion in margarine.
  2. Add potatoes and water and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Then add crab meat. Cook for 15 more minutes.
  4. Ad

  5. Mix milk with flour and add to the rest.
  6. Stir while adding salt and pepper and cook 5 minutes more.
