Creating a Snowy Window or Mirror

December 28, 2018

Snowy Window or Mirror - dresser mirror with snowflake designsOne winter, my mom came up to me with a twinkle in her eye and asked me to make snowflakes. It turns out, she wanted to cover the upstairs window with "frost" so that there could be more sun and privacy. It worked so well, it stayed up 'till spring, long after the snow on the ground thawed!

Total Time: depends on how many snowflakes you make

Supplies:

  • paper
  • scissors
  • tape
  • 1 spray can of fake snow (at Family Dollar) ($1.00)
Snowy Window or Mirror - can of snow

Steps:

  1. Cut out a bunch of paper snowflakes, some big and some small
  2. Clear the area beneath where you want to spray. Don't do what I did, haha!
  3. Snowy Window or Mirror - clear area under where you will be spraying to avoid getting snow on belongings

  4. Make a couple rolls of tape and snip apart to fit the size of each snowflake. You will need to apply several bits of tape so that the snowflake is held firmly in place on the glass, with few gaps.
  5. Snowy Window or Mirror - put small tape rolls on the snowflakes to hold them to the window or mirror

  6. Arrange the snowflakes on the glass. I put my biggest in the corner and had the others kind of drifting around it. I still wanted to use the mirror somewhat, so I left the inside blank.
  7. Snowy Window or Mirror - arrange and stick them to the mirror

  8. Gently begin spraying the fake snow. Spray a heavier layer in circles around each snowflake so the imprint shows up. I recommend that the further away you spray from the snowflakes, the more transparent the snow should be.
  9. Snowy Window or Mirror - spray lightly over flake and heavier around the design

  10. Carefully peel away the snowflakes and any tape left behind. Make sure to wipe up snow around the surface, especially if it gets on finished wood.
  11. Snowy Window or Mirror - gently remove the paper flakes and any tape, wipe up and fake snow on furniture or flooring

  12. Enjoy your new decoration all season long!
